Etrian Odyssey Untold 1+2 and IV differences
I recently decided to stock up on some games on the eShop to give myself a nice list of games to play. Since I've only had a PC for gaming up until a few months ago when I purchased my n3ds, I ended up stocking up one some RPGs. Among those games, I grabbed the EO off the eShop and recently the demo for EOU2. I have to say that I'm a huge fan of all three, but I have seen plenty of posts and friends complain about the EOU games. The only real reason I've seen given is that the EOU games have 'quirks' with no elaboration into what those quirks are. I was curious what reasons people have for liking one over the other to see if there is something I'm missing or balance issues I just haven't noticed.

From my perspective, EO:IV feels like a game where I'm braving a new world with the intent of being the first and the best. There is more of a sense of playing as a guild manager and less as an individual character. When it comes to the EOU games (story mode), I have more of a sense of of urgency with an clear overall goal I'm working towards. The story isn't the most complex or surprising one I've ever heard, but at this point I feel that I've been around gaming long enough to see most plot twists from a mile away. I'm also fond of the characters and how they are slowly filled out and you learn about them over time instead of a blob of a bio to read. It definitely feels like more of being part of a guild/party since you identify with a single character.
As for game mechanics, combat is rather similar between the three. In terms of leveling, it seems like two different extremes. In the EOU games, you get overwhelmed by how easy it is to reach new skills and there are so many to choose from. In EO:IV, I feel like I need to build my party members to fill a specific role right out of the gate due to how deeply rooted some of the unlocks are.
